The Solution

The solution to my internet problem is electricity! When my computer is plugged in, it connects to the internet right away. This is wonderfully convenient; although, now I have no excuse for not posting more often!

After 6 days of classes, I feel like I have a good idea of what to expect from my classes and my professors. The first week was slightly overwhelming, as all first weeks are, with trying to remember my schedule, adapting to new teaching styles, and also receiving all of the assignments for the entire semester in each class. Most Spanish classes are much less structured than those in the United States. Actually, I probably can't make that comparison since I've mostly taken science classes in America and am taking only cultural classes here. However, that is the general consensus I have heard. All of my classes are based on  lecture and discussion. Each one has a mid-term and a final, and most have a final paper or project. I won't have much other time-consuming homework other than reading and writing reflections. So far, I am very interested in all of my classes, and I think I'll learn a lot.

This past weekend I went hiking with a group of people in my program at Las Cachorras outside of a small town, Monachil, which is 8 km away from Granada. It was a beautiful day for hiking and a picnic! When we got to Monachil, we had to walk to the national park through the outskirts of the pueblo. Then, we walked across this long, hanging bridge, on which only four people were allowed to cross at one time. To get to the canyon on the other side, we walked along this narrow pathway next to a large creek. Sometimes we had to crawl under rocks or swing ourselves around the rocks to continue. After we passed through a cave, we were in the canyon. Then, we ate our lunch and explored!

  1. This was interesting to read, especially comparing American and Spanish class structures and content. I liked hearing about your hike and seeing the pictures (again). Sorry I missed your call today.
